This style of chew is cut from the base of a Whitetail Deer antler. The base is the part of the antler that attaches to the head of the deer. The outer edge of a Whitetail antler is dense, but the center contains a softer marrow. The dense outside provides hours of chewing time, while the soft marrow is the reward that your dog will look forward too. This combination provides a great all purpose chew.
About the Deer
The Whitetail Deer is the most common deer species in North America. With an estimated 30 million deer, the inhabit all of central and eastern United States, up into Canada, and down into Mexico. Whitetail Deer are so popular, they are the state animal of 9 different states, Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. When it is alarmed or threatened, it runs with its white under tail upward, which gives it its name. During the spring, they start growing their antlers, and can grow more than an inch per day in captivity.
Sheds are like fingerprints. They all have the same general shape, but the details are very different. Although the picture shows a general idea, the color and shape will vary.
Dogs should be supervised while they are chewing their antler. When it gets worn down small enough to swallow, we advise that you throw it away.
