This style of chew is cut from the base of a Fallow antler. The base is the part of the antler that attaches to the head of the deer, and provides the foundation for the antler growth. The outer edge of an Fallow antler is dense, but the center contains a soft marrow. This combination provides a great all purpose chew. The dense outside provides hours of chewing time, while the soft marrow is the reward that your dog will look forward too.
About the Deer
The Fallow deer is originally native to Europe, but is currently present on 6 of the planets continents. It is rumored that the first herd of Fallow Deer in the United States belonged to George Washington. Fallow can come in one of 3 main colors, chocolate, white, and spotted. Even though they are the only deer with an Adams apple, Fallow are most recognizable by their antler shape. Their base and beam look very similar to an Axis deer, but the tops of the antlers resemble that of a Moose. As they reach the top, the antler flattens out into a paddle, used for fighting, attraction, and protection.
Sheds are like fingerprints. They all have the same general shape, but the details are very different. Although the picture shows a general idea, the color and shape will vary.
Dogs should be supervised while they are chewing their antler. When it gets worn down small enough to swallow, we advise that you throw it away.
